Enjoyed this and all your posts. During regular trips to the Garhwal Himalayas with my boys many years ago we made a list of all the BRO sayings. Over 20 of them. They kept us entertained. One that I can remember went like this - Safety on Roads = Safe Tea at home!

Down south, driving up to Yercaud in the Shevaroy Hills of Tamilnadu (far from any border or BRO) my family always laughed at the sign which said,"You have been sufficiently warned!" - of what, we never knew, A Zen kaon. Thanks for your travelogue; I enjoy them.

Reminds me of several similar signs we saw driving between Haa and Paro in Western Bhutan a few weeks ago. My favorite was "Driving Faster Causes Disaster."

BRO signs are a hoot. I remember one on the Manali-Solang road: "Divorce speed, not life."

Lovely and exciting read as usual. The road signs remind me of the road signs in Bhutan that are also quite idiomatic e.g. “thrill kills”. It makes me wonder about the English literacy their citizens need and have in order to understand these signs, which were only written in English.

In recent years, I have not come across more lovely writing. I am looking forward to more.

Do you recommend any other writers?

My father commanded a BRO battalion years ago, Pallavi, back when the Valley and the moon desert of Ladakh as indeed us, lived through more innocent times.

I went back, a few years ago. Picked up this delightful book of the now famous BRO road signs.

It's titled 'Peep Peep Don't Sleep' and has been put together by Ajay Jain.
