Lovely and so well written. Now I understood why a Chilean Navy cruiser in the 1960s and 1970s was called O’Higgins.

Many other ships and places named after this war hero in Chile. Confirms the point of these Irish soldiers. The person who wrote for you talked about Tara which allowed me to relate to Gone with the wind. You’re really bringing a global jigsaw together Pallavi.

Ultan is a bit light on some facts. After 1690 the battle for supremacy moved to Limerick in South West Ireland. The Treaty of Limerick signed in October 1691 gave the Irish army safe passage to continental Europe with many settling in France & Spain to continue their military careers.

I just visited Ireland a month ago. This story brought back memories. During the trip I also learned that many Vikings married the locals and now there are many Viking-Irish surnames.
