Dear Pallavi,

good wishes you get by the bucket-full. I'll add mine.

A word of practical advice, though: Never (a) patient be.

This year I have been dealing with a very rare (one in a million cases) mostly benign tumour. The scans revealed it in 2014 - it was taken seriously by two health care systems this year only (wrong, one still ignored it). I'm forced to spend a lot of time reminding, coordinating, and basically managing the illness and assorted conditions one has collected over the years.

Feeling in charge is therapeutic also, and allows proper irony to creep in.

And yes, feel free to expostulate about it all. We all learn from it.

Well naturally, I wait with bated breath for your weekly epistle! So a week off (or three) would be a hole in my literary life, but I'd rather have that to chat with you about at some future date!! I am one of the scores of people who know someone (my SIL) who have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and have come through with nary a physical scar to show for it, although the mental echo of the C word in one's brain is harder to overcome! Much love, big hugs and enjoy the anesthesia-induced sleep as a perk of surgery!

Hey ! No matter how touching and flattering the imagined obituary may sound, do always remember it wouldn’t be better than a lived life - so junk those thoughts.

And you are on the nail — much has changed in medicine since Ms Sontag passed away.

Get well VERY soon ! All waiting to hear the saga of Pallavi vs beastly cells !

Warm and best wishes , Pallavi

My dear Pallavi, thank you for another beautiful article written under emotional stress. I can well understand your fears. Nothing like cancer to remind us that we are mortal . Fortunately your case seems under control, and chemotherapy should melt away the dreaded crab. Best wishes for a quick recovery.
