Many Irish also went to Bordeaux and got in the wine trade, often dubbed “The Wine Geese”. In fact several Bordeaux wineries still bear their names, and in some cases the original family still is the owner, eg. Leoville Barton & Langoa Barton. Examples: Phelan Sagur, McCarthy, Lynch-Bages, Kirwan, Boyd Cantenac, etc. And one Irish family even went to Cognac, and started Hennessy. Many fascinating stories.
