In how peoples express touch, respond to it, yearn for it, or recoil from it, there is much to learn about a nation’s disposition. This isn’t the sexual touch of lovers, but the touch of the platonic urban, generated between acquaintances or strangers in a city, as they commute, consume and communicate their way through the day.
Made for enjoyable reading, as always. Wonderful description of how places/ countries can be defined by the way they look, taste and sound. And by their differing attitudes to physical proximity and contact in public spaces. Very evocative..
I have loved reading you, I understand and share everything you say about those places I know, and you have skilfully transported me to those I have not been to. Congratulations!
You have written well about touch and its presence/ absence across societies. I believe smell is equally present/ absent. Smell is what connects our body and mind.
Excellent piece, Pallavi! I miss seeing you and reading you for the last few weeks has been a very nice way to 'hear' you again and miss your always engaging conversations even more. Keep posting!
Insightful, as always.. and great question : has Covid changed our concept of intimacy and distance? I think it did, but we have reverted back to the acceptable norms.

That's so lovely to hear, Cathy. Miss our chats too.
This is as sensuous and tactile a prose as I have read in a long long time. Would love run my fingers through you hair in affectionate, appreciation.
What a lyrical way to describe something that is so central to our sense of well-being!
Thank you!
